-These refer to a person (indirect object) and a thing for the (direct object). There are two structures possible.
A. verb + indirect object + direct oject
a. She gave her brother the key.
b. He told her his secret.
c. They had already shown the police inspector his photos.
d. I had already given him the new assignments for this year.
|B. verb + direct object + preposition + indirect object|
a. She gave the key to her brother.
b. He told his secret to her.
c. They had already shown his photos to the police inspector.
d. I had already given the new assignments for this year to him.
|Both of these structures can be made passive.|
A. indirect object becomes the subject of the passive verb
a. Her brother was given the key.
b. She was told by his secret.
c. The police inspector had already been shown his photos.
d. He had already been given the new assignments for this year.
|B. direct object becomes the subject of passive verb|
a. The key was given to her brother.
b. Her secret was told to him.
c. The photos had already shown to the police inspector.
d. The new assignments for this year had already been given by him.
Note : The choice between the two passive structures may depend on what has been said before or on what needs to be put last in the sentence.
Structure A: The workers are being paid a lot for their project this year.

Structure B: prepositions are sometimes dropped before indirect object pronouns.
